HATHOR

What can you say about Hathor, the daughter of RA and the sky goddess NUT,
well she’s done some pretty mean damage.

The patron of Love, Pleasure [I really try NOT to think about that] Women, Music etc,
basically as Jack put it …’ sex, drugs and rock and roll’.

Also known as Lady of Heaven and Mistress Of The Underworld, she is the female counterpart to Sokar.

Hathor means ‘House of Horus’, which is the sky and there is no doubt at one time
Hathor was regarded as a sky-goddess of the eastern sky when Horus [The Elder that is] was born.

Hathor occupied a very important position in the pantheon of Ancient Egypt,
dating from  archaic times. In earlier times this sky goddess was regarded as the mother of the sun god until she was replaced by ISIS.

There are a multitude of mythological ideas surrounding Hathor; she is a moon and sky goddess,
goddess of the east and the west, a cosmic deity, an agriculture goddess of moisture …..the list goes on.
Although her original status is er..somewhat obscure, it can be assumed that she is primarily a moon goddess.

The original form in which Hathor was worshipped was that of a cow [sounds about right] although later
she is represented as a woman with the head of a cow and much later with a human head.
She is also shown with a headdress resembling a pair of horns with the moon between them.

According to an ancient myth Hathor was supposed to have raised the youthful sun up to Heaven by
means of her horns.  In the end the goddess who bore the sun was herself equated with the sun,
being regarded as the Solar Eye.
However, if we regard her as a moon goddess a good deal of the mythology surrounding
her will become clear. For example, she is frequently spoken of as the ‘Eye Of Ra’ and
‘The Golden One’, who stands high in the South as The Lady of Teka. She is also regarded as mistress
of the Underworld, which is not surprising when we consider what she’s done.

In the Old Kingdom, Dendera was Hathors main cult centre. She was regarded as the
‘female soul with two faces’ [
said she was two faced.. J.O’N]……yes, anyway,
sheis  ‘mother of her father, daughter of her son’, right let   me explain.   She is mother, wife and daughter to RA, er right, when she appears
in the heavens before the sun she is his mother, when she reigns together – wife, when she rises after he
has set – daughter.

It was in this idea of womanhood that Hathor received the homage of Egyptian woman and became patron
of Love, Joy, Merrymaking, music and Song.
It has been said that all Egyptian goddess were forms of Hathor.

Sekhmet was also one of Hathor’s forms. In this form she was a fierce lioness fond of hunting and it was in the
guise of the lioness that she went to slay mankind. RA called for her to stop the slaughter   but she refused,
RA then had a meeting with the other gods and they advised RA to give Sekhmet beer,
[apparently she was very fond of it].
Large quantities were brewed and mixed with Kharkady so that it resembled blood. RA then poured
it upon the fields where she was going to hunt in the morning and when Sekhmet arose she drank the beer
and became ‘glad’ [er..ok drunk] She fell asleep and mankind was saved. RA said to her ‘                come in peace’ and ever since then there has been a festival of Drunkenness to celebrate this episode.

Hathor is sometimes identified with the star Sept or Sothis [Sirius], which rose on the 1st day of the month of THOTH.

There are in fact [er which Jack doesn’t know YET] SEVEN Hathors, Thebes, Heliopolis, Aphroditopolis, Sinaitic Peninsular, Momemphis, Herakleopolis and Keset.

In the Litanies of Sokar other groups of seven Hathors are mentioned.

If this is so, MAYBE the one Jack killed isn’t the last………
